ASCAT Conferences - About Us & History

About Us & History

ASCAT, born as the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Course in 2006 under the guidance of Professor Baba P.D. Inusa, initially targeted frontline staff in haemoglobinopathies. It began by providing essential training for doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers in the UK. Over the years, this initiative transformed into a global platform facilitating the exchange of ideas among specialists, delivering therapy updates, and refining patient care practices. In recognition of its expanding role, ASCAT evolved into a scientific annual meeting, officially renamed the Academy for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia.

.

In 2018, ASCAT formed a pivotal collaboration with Eurobloodnet, introducing a patient-focused platform at the 2019 conference. A landmark partnership with the European Hematology Association (EHA) and the British Society of Haematology (BSH) was established in 2019, culminating in the inaugural joint conference held virtually in 2020. These strategic collaborations have significantly broadened ASCAT's influence and reach, solidifying its status as a premier gathering for healthcare professionals dedicated to Sickle Cell Disease, Thalassaemia, and related disciplines.

The Annual Scientific Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Conference stands as a leading global event for healthcare professionals. It provides a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in the diagnosis, treatment, and emerging fields within haemoglobinopathies. Selected abstracts and poster presentations from the conference are prominently featured in the Abstract Book.
